One of the critical aspects of customs compliance is the Entry Summary Declaration (ENS), which applies to goods being imported from the EU to Great Britain. Ensuring Accuracy

Incomplete or incorrect ENS declarations can delay goods at the border. Ensure all data is accurate and current, particularly if shipment details change en route.

Essential Tools For Submission

It’s important to ensure you do things correctly, and the following points are essential to supporting you in your S&S processes.

  • Register for S&S GB using a Government Gateway account and GB EORI number.
  • Use approved software or engage with third-party customs agents for efficient submissions.
Responsibility: Who is this relevant to and Understanding Compliance

Reponsibility: Who Is This Relevant For And Understanding Compliance.

Compliance with Entry Summary Declaration requirements involves collaboration between importers, exporters and carriers. While the carrier—the operator of the active means of transport—bears the legal obligation to submit the ENS declaration, importers and exporters play a vital role in ensuring the accuracy and completeness of the necessary information.

For Importers and Exporters

Key Responsibilities:
Importers and exporters must provide carriers with accurate commercial documentation containing all required data fields, including goods descriptions, package details, and transport information.

Why It Matters:
Accurate documentation ensures smooth submission of ENS declarations, preventing delays or penalties.

For Carriers

Key Responsibilities:
Carriers are responsible for submitting the ENS declaration to UK Customs within the specified timeframes, depending on the mode of transport (e.g., maritime, rail, or road). They must ensure all submitted information aligns with the commercial documentation provided by the importer or exporter.

Why It Matters:
Submitting timely and complete ENS declarations is essential to meeting legal requirements and avoiding disruptions at the border.

By working together and understanding their respective responsibilities, importers, exporters, and carriers can ensure compliance with customs regulations and contribute to the smooth movement of goods across borders.
